About Karen West

Karen West Voice is me and I have been working in the world of music since I graduated from university, establishing Karen West Voice from my base in Appleby in the Eden Valley of Cumbria in 2017.

I studied at The City University London, Lancaster University and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and continue to learn, working with Irene Drummond in Edinburgh as my singing coach. I take an active interest in current trends in music education and performance through reading, and listening to current podcasts, documentaries and radio features.

Since 2000, I have taught music in four secondary schools in Cumbria, working with GCSE, A-level and Performance Grade students; also running a community music centre, delivering Arts Award and workshops and the Level 2 RSL Music Practitioners Award syllabus. With somewhere over 1000 students over the years, I hope that they have joyful memories of their music.

I also enjoy getting to know individuals, working one to one with students of all ages and developing the musical and performance skills of choirs and other groups.

Music is a huge part of my non-working life too but I also enjoy interior design, woodland management, reading, film, cooking, walking and socialising – I am a very social animal who enjoys good company. I also love to explore the beautiful part of the world where I am lucky to live.
